Marisa’s interest in health and nutrition emerged from her own challenges with weight and self-confidence during her teenage years. During that time, her steady diet of processed foods resulted in weight gain, a poor complexion, and an unhealthy relationship with food. Ultimately, counting calories became a way of life. She understands what it’s like to go on countless diets, only to regain the weight, and to obsess over every bite of food. Understandably, this way of thinking left little time to relax, enjoy life and focus on other priorities. After learning how to nourish her body with whole natural foods, as well as meeting Adam and seeing his healthy relationship with food, Marisa learned how to use food as fuel, lost weight in the process, and had the time and energy to create and pursue other goals.
In 2003, she attended the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York City, where she became a Certified Holistic Health Coach and for the past several years, has helped many individuals and families create happy, healthy lifestyles. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts and a Master’s degree in education from NYU. In the spring of 2010 she set her sites on running a marathon and with hard work and dedication, crossed the finish line of the Philadelphia Marathon later that year. This summer, Marisa will be happily participating in the Health Educators Program at the Hippocrates Heath Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida. She’s already looking forward to sharing some great information with you while she’s there.
Coincidentally, Adam’s interest in health and nutrition increased exponentially when he met Marisa in 2002. At the time, Adam was just four years removed from being diagnosed with and successfully treated for Stage II Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. While the doctors were never able to attribute the illness to any specific cause, Adam believes that the universe was trying to tell him that he had better start paying more attention to his health if he wanted to see what the world was like beyond his twenty-eighth birthday. Since he evidently missed that subtle cue, the universe was kind enough to give him another, infinitely more pleasant one by introducing him to Marisa.
Adam credits Marisa for providing him with the wisdom, patience, and compassion that he needed to adopt and maintain a natural, healthy lifestyle. As Marisa’s first and longest continuous client, Adam is the healthiest and happiest he’s ever been. The sinus infections he used to battle three times per year have all but vanished, and, thanks to an immune system that’s functioning on all cylinders, he’s been able to avoid the ailments that typically come with the territory of being an elementary school principal.
Adam holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Rutger’s University and a Master’s degree in Public School Leadership from Montclair St. University. When he’s not researching natural foods and other ways of maintaining optimal health, Adam is either training for his next run or enjoying his other favorite pastime—photography. As a semi-professional photographer, some of Adam’s work will be featured on this web site, in DishingNatural.com newsletters, blog posts and emails. He’s thrilled to share more of his work at www.uncommonhoursphoto.com.
Adam and Marisa were married in October of 2006 and have been enjoying a natural, healthy lifestyle ever since. They currently live in New Jersey with their two Yorkies, Gatsby and Tino.
